The boundary we work within
- The Act reserves the diagnosis and treatment of disease and injury, and acts of veterinary surgery, to registered veterinary surgeons.
- Members do not diagnose, treat, prescribe, or perform any procedure reserved to a veterinary surgeon.
- Members provide maintenance hygiene and welfare monitoring within their scope of practice.
- Where a member identifies or suspects any abnormality, illness or injury, they do not offer an opinion on its cause or treatment. They advise the owner to seek a veterinary referral.
- Members make clear to owners that their service is not a substitute for veterinary advice.
Non-compliance with the Act or with this policy is taken very seriously and may result in immediate review and removal from the register.
